The article is focused on the specific features of the book «Russian in exercises», which determined its important role in teaching Russian as a foreign language for 50 years.

The article describes possibilities of using the book “Russian in exercises” on advanced level of teaching Russian. The book can be used as a revision book, for methodological analyses and as lexical and grammatical base for compiling text-books.

The major characteristics of an electronic textbook of a new type on Russian as a Foreign Language in its opposition to a paper one; the principles of computer support for teaching Russian as a foreign language are considered.

The article is devoted to the problem of dialogue of cultures as teaching material at the beginner level of teaching Russian as a foreign language (levels A1/A2). The texts subjects, examples of texts and tasks are offered.

The article presents the problems of studying toponyms in the course of the Russian language for beginners. The author pays attention to the role of the study book “Russian in Exercises” by S.A. Khavronina and A.I. Shirochenskaya in the study of toponyms. The study book helps to learn noun and adjective cases forms, which provides the development of foreign atudents’ communicative skills.

This article describes some of the features of the Russian preposition and case system from the aspect of interaction of its forms, semantics, and functioning. The presented approach allows to better develop linguistic competence.

The article defines the notion “applicative linguistic knowledge” and shows the main objectives of teaching foreign languages. Basing on the examples of verbal communication in different subject areas, the authors propose methods of teaching analysis of information and synthesis of a descriptive and instructive text.

On the basis of linguo-cultural analysis of the English and French phraseology the spectrum of cultural connotations of concept “white colour” is defined.
