Traditions of N.V. Gogol in the prose of S.A. Klychkov
Abstract
The article deals with the traditions of N.V. Gogol in the prose of S.A. Klychkov. The absence of generalizing works that examine the work of Novokrestyansk writers in the context of the traditions of Russian classics, determines the relevance of the topic. The purpose of the work is to identify and analyze common images and motifs in the prose of Gogol and Klychkov. The task of the research is to find out what caused the creative interchange of these writers. In the works of both writers presented the motive of Russian heroism and Russian force. But in S. Klychkov's novel “Sugar German”, the events of which take place in the First World War, the motive of heroism is transformed into the motive of the death of the Russian people. The iron “German civilization” not only destroys the natural utopia, but also morally cripples the person, makes him the servant of the devil. The image of the “the deceptive city”, which is ruled by the devil, in prose of S.A. Klychkov is projected onto the “Saint Petersburg stories” by N.V. Gogol. In “Sugar German” there are plot rolls with “Nevsky Prospect”. Material for comparison is the theme of the relationship between man and the devil in the works of Gogol and Klychkov. The results of the research show that in S.A. Klychkov's prose there are typological convergences with the works of N.V. Gogol, conditioned by conceptual ideas about the Russian national character, the fate of the people and Russia, as well as a conscious orientation to Gogol's poetics.
Novel “Doctor Zhivago” by B.L. Pasternak: the specifics of the issue of the cultural hero
Abstract
The article raises the question of the cultural landmarks of the heroes of the novel B.L. Pasternak “Doctor Zhivago”. As is known, the plot of the work takes place at the turn of the eras, and for some heroes this becomes an incentive to think about their cultural self-determination. Their actions and behavior model are directly related to the attitude to cultural reality described in the work, and sometimes even aimed at its transformation by practical, revolutionary methods. A certain catalytic role in relation to culture is one of the criteria of a cultural hero. From this point of view, a comparative analysis of the positions of B.L. Pasternak and A.A. Blok in relation to the revolutionary events of 1917, their reflection in “Doctor Zhivago” and in the poem “Twelve” is carried out. The image of Yuri Zhivago is investigated from the point of view of the type of cultural hero - the Ascetic. The characteristic is given to the image of Antipov (Strelnikov) as a representative of the type of cultural hero - Conquistador. It has been established that Zhivago’s ascetic cultural position is based on loyalty to timeless ideals, an idea of the aesthetic potential of the Personality in relation to reality, while Antipov's (Strelnikov) actions are aimed at suppressing the individual human principle and, therefore, are devoid of a genuine creative component that nourishes the culture of mankind.
Russian historical novel in a new way: “Tobol” by Alexey Ivanov
Abstract
The article aims to find out the deep artistic meanings of the novel by A. Ivanov “Tobol” to show the originality and significance of its structure, modifying in many ways the genre of the historical novel. This is evidenced by the author's tangible focus on the possible transformation of the novel into a form of cinema - accented visual imagery of the novel's components (landscapes, architectural sketches, paintings of everyday life) and, most importantly, the exciting drama in the development of the plot, in all its lines, with a powerful energy of actions and dialogues of the characters (the tragic conflict of the Siberian governor Gagarin and tsar Peter I, the clash of Remezov and Gagarin, the struggle of schismatics, the resistance of the Voguls in their conversion to Christianity, the war with the Dzungars). The article suggests that the Siberian reality of the Peter the Great era is considered by the writer from a very deep angle: Siberia, with its many national and socio-historical identities (pagans-Voguls, nomadsDzungars, Cossacks, etc.), with their inevitable struggle, is seen as the “key to Russia”, to understanding the complexity of its historical destiny. An important task is also to pay attention to the connection in the novel of the forms of realistic narrative with the magic of the wonderful, fantastic (in the images of the pagan view of the world of many characters), bringing together the work of A. Ivanov with modern magical realism in literature.
Theatricality in the postmodern novel “Quest” by B. Akunin
Abstract
The article examines postmodern properties of the detective novel “Quest” by B. Akunin such as “epistemological and ontological doubt” in the view of world and the openness of the narrative. The aspects of theatricalization in the text of the novel are analyzed: the world order of masquerade, the theatricality of episodes, theatrical allusions, etc. The article demonstrates functioning of the game between author and reader in this novel, which serves a great example of Akunin’s literary game strategy. It also confirms that the theatricalization in this novel is in association with postmodern aesthetics and a important aspect in the poetics of “Quest”.
“The Gray House” by Mariam Petrosyan in the context of the literary tradition of magical realism
Abstract
The paper deals with a comprehensive analysis of the formal and substantive components of Mariam Petrosyan’s novel “The Gray House” (“The House in Which ...”). The publication of the novel in 2009 provoked extremely diverse criticism. The authors pay much attention to the artistic originality of the novel and substantiate that it can be classified among works written using the method of magical realism. At the beginning of the paper, the authors provide a review of the works devoted to the theoretical aspects of the method of magical realism. The article is based on the correlation between the “strange” (in the researchers’ opinion) poetry of M. Petrosyan and the specifi of the above-mentioned method, the peculiarities of the “magical language”, taking into account critical publications about the novel. The analysis of the specifics of the plot, composition, the conflict and represented characters makes it possible to consider M. Petrosyan’s work in the context of the above-mentioned literary tradition.
Features of bilingualism in modern Karachay-Balkar poetry
Abstract
The article presents the phenomenon of bilingualism in modern Karachai-Balkarian poetry. The study is conducted based on Russian-language works of poets, whose creative maturity came to the post-perestroika era, and artists of the newest generations, entered the literary process at the junction of the XX-XXI centuries. The aim of the study is to identify the main trends and features of this phenomenon in the poetic discourse of the Karachay-Balkar masters of the word of indicated period. In the course of the analysis, the author revealed heterogeneous models of artistic expression, manifested in the same verse culture each generation differently. The research centers on the poetic works of modern Karachay-Balkar poets of the turn of the late XX - early XXI centuries: Arthur Bakuev, Shahriza Bogatyreva, Aishat Kushcheterova, Nauruz Bairamkulov, Ismail Baituganov. For the first time new names are introduced into scientifi circulation, and the Russian-language creativity of two generations of poets is gradually considered. As a research method an integrated approach is used, combining elements of comparative-typological, system-integral and historical-literary analysis. The results contribute to the development of the theory of text and discourse in the aspect of considering the phenomenon of bilingualism in the latest Karachay-Balkar literature.

The image of wolf in artistic animalism of “The Song of Igor’s Campaign” and ancient Chinese literature
Abstract
The article analyzes the image of the wolf in “The Song of Igor's Campaign” and ancient Chinese literature. In the motive complex of artistic animalism of “The Song” the wolf is represented semantically multivalued. He acts as a symbolic function of the forerunner of tragic events, poeticizes as a legendary mythological werewolf, and is also intensively used as a comparison-personification. In ancient Chinese literature the wolf in the vast majority of texts acts as a carrier of negative emotions. Its main metaphorical associations are alien invaders, rebels, sovereigns-tyrants. The image of the wolf is investigated according to the original text of “The Song” and the translations and commentaries of Chinese literary scholars Wei Huangnu and Li Xiyin.
I. Turgenev’s novel “Rudin” in Chinese literary studies
Abstract
The work of I. Turgenev was translated into Chinese in the first half of the twentieth century and later spread widely in China, having a great influence on the new generation of Chinese writers. At the same time, more and more literary critics began to study the works of Turgenev. Extensive research and analysis, as well as the study of works from different angles, contributed to a better understanding of Turgenev and Russian literature by Chinese readers. The article discusses the publications of Chinese litterateurs and critics from the second half of the 20th to beginning of the 21st century, the work of Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev, notes the enduring interest of the Chinese audience to the work of Russian prose writer, in particular, to the novel “Rudin”. Special attention is paid to the prose writer's “path” to the novel; it is proved that the high interest of scientists to Dmitry Rudin, the protagonist of this novel, caused by Chinese specifics and the relevance of many problems associated with this image. The article explains the evolution of the attitude of the Chinese to Rudin: from agreement with Russian researchers considering him as a superfl person to disagreement with them. At the same time, Rudin is compared with typically similar images in Chinese literature. An analysis of Turgenev's works by Chinese literary critics will provide detailed information for future studies in international literary circles, and can also lay the foundation for finding differences between Chinese and Russian literary criticism.
The acceptance of I.A. Bunin in China in the context of ideological direction
Abstract
The disagreement between liberal and communist ideological doctrines had a direct impact on the reception of I.A. Bunin's works in China. Having rejected the left ideology, the Chinese community rethought the work of many foreign classics, including Bunin. Liberal ideology has changed, among other things, ideological views on literature, helped by acquaintance with the latest theoretical studies of Western literature. This aroused a natural interest in perceiving the creative heritage of Bunin in China, and made it possible to look at many of its aspects in a new and deeper way. Hereby, this article analyzes the influence of political ideologies on the reception of Bunin’s works in China.
Maxim Gorky’s drama as a scientific research and creative development in China
Abstract
The research attempts to systematize and summarize the works of Chinese philologists on the drama of M. Gorky. The research shows how the tradition of Gorky in Chinese science was shaped, using one of its parts as critical literary and scientifi works on Gorky drama, starting from the moment the audience learned about the plays of the Soviet classic in the 30s of the 20th century. The most significant Chinese translation of Gorky's plays and their publications are considered. An important aspect of the reception of Gorky drama from the cultural Chinese audience is its performance on the stages of theaters in the People’s Republic of China, therefore the stage interpretation of Gorky’s texts is also in the field of attention of the research. In conclusion, today Gorky in China is experiencing a new upsurge and dramaturgy of the writer, as well as its tradition and bizarre reflection in the plays of modern authors are regularly becoming the subject of scientific interest of Chinese Russianists.
Perception of works of V. Shklovsky in China
Abstract
The article is devoted to studying the long-term dissemination and perception of Viktor Shklovsky's works and ideas in China from the 1930s to 2010s, while providing a brief overview of the scientific articles of Chinese Russianists, who played a key role in studying the heritage of Shklovsky conceptual apparatus in Chinese literary criticism. Particular attention is paid to the category of estrangement, firmly included in Chinese literary studies and widely used in the analysis of works of Chinese literature and cinema, have been considered such concepts of Russian formalism as literary character, reception, since the early 80s of the 20th century adopted by the science of China. The article emphasizes that the history of the perception of the theoretical views of V. Shklovsky in China includes several stages, while a true study of his works, like Russian formalism in general, begins only in the 1980s of the 20th century. The artworks of Shklovsky in China began to pay attention only to the XXI century.

Media ecosystem in the projection of technological innovations
Abstract
Accelerated adoption of technological innovations and the transition to a digital economy raise many debatable issues, and they affect the media industry. At the same time, the national media industry in the era of technological, sociocultural and economic transformations has the role of an information integrator of innovations. Transformations in the media sphere, the reform stage, raise a number of issues requiring substantiation. The article is aimed at posing a multidimensional problem, namely, the problem of the media component of digital reforms. This aspect of the study allows us to reveal both the positive factors of improving the media sphere during its transition to a new level, and to reveal the gaps of the media system developing in the digital paradigm. The article offers an analysis of the modern concept of the media industry. In the 21st century, media appear as a multifunctional system, where priority is given to the interdisciplinarity of knowledge, competencies and skills, this also updates the criteria for media education. The justification of the term “ecosystem” in this article as applied to media helps to trace the relationship between the fundamental vectors of development of this most important social institution - it is these vectors that underpin the media structure as a market entity.
The British Weekly: a case study of British propaganda to the Soviet Union during World War II
Abstract
The research investigates a publishing history of the Britansky Souyznik (British Ally) weekly (further - British Weekly) in Russian language, which was published in the Soviet Union by the UK Ministry of Information in the Second World War years and to 1950. This newspaper published reports from fronts where British troops fought against Nazi Germany and its allies, articles on British-Soviet military cooperation, materials about British science, industry, agriculture, and transport, reports on people’s life in the UK, historical background of British Commonwealth countries, cultural and literature reviews. British Weekly circulation in the USSR was 50,000 copies. The main method used for the research was the study of the newspaper’s materials, as well as the propaganda concepts of its editorial board and their influence on the audience. The researched materials are from archives of the Soviet Foreign Ministry as well as of the UK Ministry of Information and Political Warfare Executive (1940-1945), declassified by the British Government only in 2002, on the basis of which an independent analysis is conducted. The British Weekly played a bright role in the formation of techniques and methods of British foreign policy propaganda to Soviet public opinion in 1942-1945. Results of the research indicates that the British government launched foreign policy propaganda to the USSR immediately after breaking-out of World War II and used the experience of the British Weekly for psychological warfare in the Cold War years.
The dramatic features of TV almanac at different stages of its existence
Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of creating and destroying scenario intentions in the process of repackaging of television content during transfer to the Internet. The cardinal changes of the communication process are fixed during the transition from the subject-to-object unidirectional scheme of communication to the subject-to-subject method of communication. The focus is on the TV almanac “Galileo” (STS channel), and all the stages of its transformations are studied: from the adaptation of the foreign licensed version of the program, the process of formation and development of the domestic version of the format till its closure and a new life on the Internet.
Interview-confrontation in the structure of modern audiovisual works
Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the actual online television and online media form of interactive transmission - interview-confrontation. On the basis of the analysis of the most popular programs based on this type of interview, we determine its genre identity, functional and compositional features, analyze the specifics of the questions. Relied on the content analysis method, the comparative-typological and historical-functional methods, conclusions are drawn about the widespread representation of interview confrontations both on traditional TV and in the sphere of network video blogging. It is emphasized that the peculiarity of the announcement of the topic in the interview is in focusing the negative attitude of the host to the position of the respondent, which is also reflected in the main part in confrontational, concretizing, programming, provocative and other forms of questions.
Negative news on the central TV channels of Russia and Ukraine: general and specific
Abstract
The relevance of the article is caused by a number of socially significant factors, the most important of which is the possibility and inevitability of manipulative impact on the consumer of information through the formation of the media agenda on television with the active use of negative information in news releases. The scientific objective of the study was to attempt to resolve the theoretical and theoretical and applied questions about the role of the negative news in a person's life and society, on the need for revisions to the negative news to hold the attention of the television audience, the specifics of the use of negative information in the news releases of the Russian and Ukrainian TV channels. The article defines the negative news, systematizes the factors of formation of negative news, identifies and structures the main components of their submission, identifi the specifi of the negative news on Russian and Ukrainian television in the news releases of TV channels “Channel One”, “NTV”, “1+1”, “Ukraine” in the period from 2014 to 2018. The main conclusion of the article is the need to reduce the negative information in the news releases of Russian and Ukrainian TV channels in order to reduce the level of manipulative impact on the audience and the overall negative impact on the psyche of man and society.
The influence of media on the perception of the image of different countries: a comparative analysis on the example of Cuba and Russia
Abstract
The article presents a comparative analysis of the bilateral perception of the image of Russia and Cuba. The study based on a survey of citizens and analysis of publications of the media of Cuba and Russia. The purpose of the study is to explore the actual problem of the formation of the image of the country in a foreign socio-cultural and media spaces. The article applies an integrated systematic approach and the use of interdisciplinary methods and techniques. In the conclusion the actual opinions of the Cuban population about Russia and Russian citizens about Cuba is identified on basis of the carried out a social survey and detailed examination of the publications about these countries in the international media, as well as in the media of both countries. The results of this work can be used by the relevant agencies of both the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cuba to further strengthen the positive image of their country through the media.
Transmedia and journalistic education: parameters of interaction
Abstract
The article deals with one of the key issues of modern journalistic education associated with the formation of students' professional competencies in the context of transmedia nature of the information space. It is assumed that the educational process in this case is based on project training and has a clear focus on journalistic practice. As a complex phenomenon, it contains the basic tools of personal activity and competence approaches. The text gives an idea of such concepts as “transmedia coverage”, “professional competence” and details some aspects of the designated educational approaches. This series is supplemented by an example of participation of students of the faculty of journalism in the transmedia coverage of the international scientific event, which took place at the South Ural State University.
Project training of foreign students: authors' experience
Abstract
The article summarizes the authors' experience in the organization of project training and its essential components (concept, tasks and characteristics). The authors consider the experience of teaching specialized journalism courses for foreign undergraduates of the Faculty of Journalism at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Following the results of several training projects and analysis of participants' profiles, the authors draw conclusions about the prospects of the project form of training journalists: it meets the demands of the media industry in terms of digitalization and ensures personal development. The development of project-based learning is evidence of a paradigm shift in teaching: from the culture of utility, functionality to the culture of dignity and integrative presence.
Internal dialogue in letters and essays
Abstract
The article discusses the features of internal dialogue in such genres as letter and essay. As an empirical material, the author took examples of media files published by Armenian Internet resources (magaghat.am, azg.am/AM/culture). As a result of the analysis, were discovered the characteristic forms of the author’s relationship with the internal “I” (internal recipients). These communicative forms give the text persuasiveness and integrity, which paves the way for the audience. A number of peculiarities of the internal dialogue were examined separately in a letter (Charlie Chaplin's letter to his daughter Geraldine) and in an essay (“No, oh Tolstoy, no!”). As a conclusion the common and distinctive aspects emerging in these two genres were summed up.

Abstract
The interdisciplinary approach adopted by scholars in recent decades has required the adaptation of well-known methodologies used in literary studies, art studies, musicology, to the changing nature of the object of study. The productivity of the approach used in the monograph by A.A. Shuldishova is determined by the combination of philological and musicological methods. The article verifi the author's hypothesis of diff ways by which the text acquires some qualities of music, the latter including such techniques as musical quotations and allusions, verbal music and “zero degree of verbal music”. The lexical and stylistic means of creating a poetic image are considered, while the reference to the musical pretext, which helps to recreate its literary analogue, corresponds to various levels: motivational, thematic, genre. Instead of the concept of synthesis of arts we are talking about the creation of musical images and images of music through the introduction of elements that actualize the associative component of musical memory.
The reception of the novel by M. Bulgakov “Master and Margarita” in the Ibero-American cultural space
Abstract
The objectives of this work is to analyze the reviews of the novel “Master and Margarita” in Latin American criticism; to identify and describe the dominant ways of reception of the novel, to draw conclusions about the features of its literacy and critical interpretation in Latin America. In this paper we have the opportunity to trace path of Bulgakov’s novel through Spain to Latin America and, in particular, to Mexico, since in most cases, Latin American countries first become acquainted with foreign works of literature through translations into Spanish from Spain, which are made for large publishing houses such as “Alianza”, “Mondadori”, “Cátedra”.
The culture of North Africa in travel notes of Russian travelers of the late XIX - early XX century
Abstract
Travel notes are the most important documentary source in the context of studying the culture of various countries. The article discusses ideas about North Africa in travel notes of Russian travelers of the late XIX - early XX century, analyzes the main themes and plots of the notes. At the designated time, Russian travelers visited such African countries as Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt, where they noted the decline of Arab culture and the planting of Western European ideals by colonists.
