Urban women wearing the hijab: a new phenomenon in Kazakhstan?
Abstract
The article helms the reader to the results of the empirical study devoted to women's religiosity and new Muslim practices in Kazakhstan. The article focuses on the analysis of the following issues: the role and significance of the hijab in the life of contemporary Muslim women; the functions of religious community in the everyday life of a «new» Muslim woman; the involvement of a hihab-wearing woman into social networks.
Managing cultural diversity: the second UNESCO World report (2009). From information society to knowledge societies
Abstract
The article focuses on the UNESCO World Report defining the strategic directions for the development of the human society in the XXI century as «Investing in Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue». The main challenge facing the international community at present is laconically described in the Report as «managing diversity». The term «investing» reflects the economic and administrative focus of the paper on governmental and public agencies' active interference into the development of sociocultural processes; while intercultural interaction is announced to be the essential and indispensable component of the contemporary social management. In terms of the proposals involved the management of cultural diversity amid the global crisis is actually set equal to anti-crisis strategies.
Long-term fashion forecast based on the sociological model of cyclic changes
Abstract
The concepts of social changes coined by classical sociology may be incorporated as the basis for the elaboration of social prognostication models which, in turn, may suitable for fashion forecast applied technologies development. In the framework of the given paper fashion is described as the phenomenon of collective behaviour. The principles of long-term fashion trends forecast are shown to be in line with the concepts of cyclic development.
Traditional and innovative culture in polyethnic society
Abstract
The topics related to traditional and innovative culture hold a specific place in contemporary cultural studies. On the one hand, the harmonious balance between traditional and innovative culture is the safeguard of social development. On the other hand, it contributes to the perpetuation of the most essential time-honoured and time-tested social values. The article examines the given range of problems in the framework of polyethnic society, where the maintenance of established traditions emerges as an indispensable requirement for national identity preservation.
Methodological principles of the study of social tension (the basis for the choice of techniques)
Abstract
The methodological foundation of the empirical sociological research of social tension implies the comprehensive systemwide analysis of the subject, the appropriate interpretation and operationalization of the concept of social tension, which offers an opportunity to define the system of its determinants as well as their empirical indicators. The universal integral determinants - indicators of social tension - have not been elaborated by the contemporary sociological thought. The axis of the publication is an endeavour to work out the indicators involved.
Predictive consulting in ecoanthropocentric paradigm
Abstract
The author demonstrates the adequacy of the ecoanthropocentric paradigm for predictive consulting. The problem of integrated knowledge retrieval in the framework of the ecoanthropocentric paradigm of social management is shown to be solved by a sociologist, which implies the articulation of a new social function performed by the given science.
