The article represents the analysis of functional semantics of proper nouns and determines the major groups of these lexical formatives realising the function of the formation of the text and the function of a conceptual creations of the text; the role of literary proper names in process of text interpretation as well as their specificity in opuses of V.I. Dal have been analyzed.
