Abstract
This paper discusses the problem of assessing the quality of written translation. Based on the works of Russian and foreign translators, the authors come to the conclusion that the theory of representativeness can serve as a basis for evaluating the quality of translation. In order to achieve a representativeness of translation from micro- to macrolevels, the translator “covers” the whole spectrum of translation problems and difficulties. Moreover, the theory of representativeness contributes to an effective process of analytical variable search and subsequent evaluation of the quality of the completed translation (both by the translator himself and by the translation critics).
