Abstract

Paremiological units - proverbs and sayings - as one of the most ancient genres of the folk literature, represent language elements, verbalizing the concepts which have been formed in the nations’ consciousness and therefore reflecting the national peculiarities of the conceptualization of the world. Thereby the value system of the simultaneous bilinguals - people learning two languages from birth - is of special interest. The given article represents the results of the lingua-cultural analysis of Russian and Greek proverbs and sayings within the thematic group “Time” and describes the study of the national-cultural specificity of the folklore picture of the world of Russian-Greek bilinguals living in Cyprus, based on the experiment aimed at the detection of the capability to understand Russian and Greek paremiological units by the bilingual children of 12-15 years old.
