Bolsunovskaya L.M.

Abstract

The paper presents different approaches to the research of genre analysis. The author summarizes different scholarly views and underlines the significance of scientific and professional communication genre research of linguistics at the present stage. English engineering discourse is defined as a macrosystem resource of professional communication genre genesis in the context of global change that comes together at all levels of social life. Also, the author notes that engineering discourse genre paradigm, as a holistic and complex phenomenon, has not been finalized yet. So this issue needs to be investigated further. Features and common norms of genre are explained according to its communicative goal that is motivated by social context, where genre is formed. Moreover, the author notes that genre analysis has experienced changes and today it includes not only research of specific language features, but also social context, culture, ideology, structure, and activity of discourse community .

Linguocreative components of the Spanish print media in the communicative aspect of “addresser-addressee”

Remchukova E.N., Shevchenko O.A.

Abstract

The object of research of the article is the “qualitative” Spanish media: linguocreative means of analytical newspaper articles used as a means for dialogization in the communicative aspect of “addresser-addressee” are analyzed here. Interacting with metaphoric means of the newspaper article (metaphor, personification, etc.) linguocreative means (neologisms, transformed quotes and idioms, polysemantic titles) form its pragmatic orientation. They are aimed at expressing the author’s position, but require some special linguistic efforts to interpret them in the context of the whole article. In the article we point out the tendency of the modern Spanish media text to stylistic contamination, which is also considered like a method of speech influence on the recipient: colloquial, low colloquial (including rude vernacular) elements are transformed to peculiar markers of the author’s view of current political events.

Interdiscursive Character of Semantic Development of Coreferential Metaphors

Gainanshin M.F., Chanysheva Z.Z.

Abstract

The article is devoted to establishing the character of semantic development involving coreferential metaphors in interdiscursive space. The solution of this problem is aimed at determining semantic relations between different links in chains made up by a number of coreferential metaphors that share the property of variant imagery nomination. The task is implemented within the boundaries of an interdiscourse viewed as a minimum cultural associative context. Empirical data have been drawn from financial and economic texts in electronic and online versions of leading English mass media resources. The meanings of key language units that underlie metaphoric designations of economic notions are clarified with the help of general English language dictionaries and culturological reference books. The analysis of selected examples is carried out based on componential, contextual, discursive, pragmatic analyses and procedures of semantic interpretation supplemented by linguaculturological methods. The investigation allows us to draw the following conclusions: semantic development of coreferential metaphors occurs on two levels: between variant imagery nominations within metaphorical chains M1 + M2 + M3 + ... Мn and between the head metaphor and submetaphors M1 ® ma + mb + mc +... mn; it has proved the role of interdiscursive contextual relations between metaphors having the same type of reference; it has shown the participation of imagery nominations within coreferential chains in the process of sense profiling; it has demonstrated intensification of semantic tension resulting from metaphoric density in coreferential blocks signaling greater synergetic effect produced on the reader.

The Place of Irony in the Speech Portrait of a Modern Politician

Gornostaeva A.A.

Abstract

The article is devoted to the usage of irony in modern political discourse. Public speeches of modern Russian, English, and American politicians and political interviews served as material for the research. The aim of the research was to find out if irony is acceptable in political discourse and examine its influence on the speech portrait of a politician. The author's conclusion is that irony is acceptable, useful, and sometimes necessary in modern political discourse. Political debates in the modern world tend to look like talk-shows, and political information acquires the form of entertainment. This presupposes the usage of irony and humor in political discourse. Politicians use ready-made ironic utterances, as well as those created on the spot. There are also cases of unintended irony. Skillful usage of ironic mechanisms makes political speech vivid, audience-oriented, and convincing. Irony helps to put across one’s message and win the trust of the audience. This holds true for Russian as well as for English and American discourse.

On the Latinian-Germanic Frontier: the Evolution and the Actual Condition of the French Language in Luxembourg

Dmitrieva E.G.

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the linguistic situation in Luxembourg, a European country that has strong connections with France. The interest in this problem is based on the impact of the globalization process on the linguistic situation in a country with a small population. The article touches upon two different tendencies in the linguistic range of Luxembourg: the stable support of the local language as a means of social identification on one hand, and on the other - the understanding of the possible negative effects of the transformation of common language into a standard one. The situation is aggravated by social-economic and demographic consequences resulting in the narrowing of local language use and the overrepresentation of the French language as an instrument of verbal communication in the country. The study of the methods and forms of a civilized solution to this kind of contradiction is very real today in the face of the discussions of the role and perspectives of the Russian language in the former Soviet republics.

External and Internal Conditionality of Language Borrowing

Bukina L.M.

Abstract

This article looks at the factors that condition borrowings in language. The exposure of borrowings in the language system is based on precise differentiation of intralinguistic and extralinguistic factors. The theoretical basis for this study were the works of Russian and foreign scientists (Bagana Zh., Breiter M.A., Crystal D., Kryisin L.P., et al) who were interested in such diversified phenomena as borrowings, in general, and in particular the reasons for them. Research is being conducted on the basis of the French language, certain illustrative units derived empirically in the process of researching these French websites: http://www.linternaute.com, http://www.elle.fr, http://www.wuzz.fr, http://www.eurosport.fr, etc. Borrowing can occur on all levels of language, but we considered the factors that facilitate borrowing and assimilation in the recipient language of lexical borrowings. The research is aimed at considering points of view of different linguists on the problem of borrowing into the recipient language and revealing similarities and differences in the views of scientists. Notwithstanding the fact that external reasons are acting as stimuli for borrowing, there are many linguistic research works that highlight their importance in the appearance and customization of foreign words in the recipient language. Intralinguistic factors dominate in the process of adopting a foreign word into the vocabulary of another language. Psychological factors play one of the key roles in the appearance of borrowings, as language contact is performed when bilingual speakers who have separate linguistic identities communicate. During the research the following methods were used: continuous sampling method, descriptive and analytical method, method of semantic analysis, method of comparison and contrasting.

Geometrician View of “Violation of Norms” in the Linguistic Consciousness

Tao Tszin P.R.

Abstract

This article shows that there are two Geometry Drawing ideas about the "violation of NORMS" in the linguistic consciousness based on the analysis of the figurative meanings of “ выйти ” and “ перейти ”, prefixes “ пере -” and their Chinese counterparts出and过, which indicate the presence of two types of STANDARDS: a framework - primarily as a constraint, and linear - actually as valid irreducibility in the scale of possible indicators. In turn, the linear values may be approximate or absolute. During the values of "violation of RULES" formatted in the considered linguistic units, both variability of different ratings of the framework REGULATIONS and the difference in the estimated prevalence and absolute linear NORMS can be observed.
