In the 90-year history of Psi Chi, its Board of Directors approved only one professional video to tell the story of the Society - “Psi Chi: Encouraging Excellence in Psychology”. This was a timely nine-minute video conceived, proposed, and produced by Vice President Nancy J. Karlin in 1998. Psi Chi mailed a copy of this VHS to all 1000 U.S. chapters, to use in their induction ceremonies, and in the promotion of Psi Chi and their chapter. This video is now on the Internet (1). Even 20 years later, this link continues to be useful for chapter installations, inductions and promotions. When Psi Chi chapters voted to go global in 2009, several experienced Psi Chi officers saw the importance of creating new video resources to more effectively and easily promote Psi Chi internationally, and they kindly stepped forward to contribute their time and expertise to create several diverse public service announcements (PSAs) for the Internet. One series of six two-minute PSAs was produced by videographer Matthew Schottenfeld in New York City, in the Fordham University Television Studio: A message to encourage chapter officers is offered by Jason Young and Mercedes McCormick (2), by Florence Denmark and Harold Takooshian (3), by Harold Takooshian alone (4), and in Spanish by Viany Orozco (5). International chapters are promoted by Mercedes McCormick and Harold Takooshian (6), and by Takooshian alone (7). Karlin’s nine-minute video was kindly and deftly translated into Russian by Alexey Sozinov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (8). At RUDN University, RUDN Television worked with Professors Elena Chebotareva and Irina Novikova to film the historic installation of the first chapter in Russia in October of 2013 (9), to inspire other Russian schools with no chapter. In Guatemala, Professor Maria del Pilar Grazioso’s talented team of students produced a five-minute introduction to Psi Chi in Spanish, to inspire other schools across Latin America (10). With cooperation from CNN, and funding from a Psi Chi Thelma Hunt Award to Amanda Vardi, a two-minute video advised Psi Chi and other students on the prudent use of credit cards to avoid student debt (11). With luck, chapters in other nations can also produce online resources in their own languages to promote Psi Chi activities in their region. List of videos 1.
