Abstract
Authors report their experience in the treatment of fractures involving the orbital floor. A total of 14 patients passed pre and post-operative clinical and radiological assessment. Of the 14 patients, the zygomatic-maxillary-orbital complex was involved in 6, isolated fractures of the orbital floor blow-out in 8. In all the cases transantral approach was used. In fractures involving the zygomatic-maxillary-orbital complex, apart from repair of the orbital floor, fixation of «standard» junctions' points was made. In isolated fractures of the orbital floor blow-out, «bone-plastic antrotomy» method was used. This one may be defined as variant of classical antrotomy what don't leave bone defect on the frontal wall of the maxillary sinus. In all the cases titanium material was used for osteosynthesis: mini-plates or mesh. The last one was employed in four patients due to substantial bone loss. Functional and aesthetic deficits were resolved in all patients. Long-term results showed complete recovering of binocular eyesight and absence of enophthalmos.
