Abstract
The anthroponyms in the plays of A.N. Ostrovsky has long attracted the attention of researchers, and most often is the connection of etymology of name with the character of its bearer. This article examines the semantics of the anthroponyms of the play ‘А Profitable place’, discusses the idea of their etymology in the speeches of the characters. We are trying to consider the name, surname and patronymic of the system. As a result, in each case, there is a original text, giving a complete picture of the nature of a character. In fact, the anthroponyms is a nominations of types, the most common among officials, which gives the images almost a mythological generalization. Anthroponyms constitute a system, which corresponds to the system of the characters in the play (Jadov contrasted with the other characters).
