JIHAD IN THE WORKS OF ABUL ALA MAUDUDI

The article examines the interpretation of the concept of jihad in the works of well-known Muslim educator, statesman, philosopher and scientist, the founder of the «Jamaat al-Islamiya» party Abul Ala Maududi. The author analyzes the views of Mawdudi concerning the nature and significance of the concept, purposes of jihad, as well as the relationship between the followers of Islam and other faiths, paying close attention to such a concept as unbelief (kufr). It is noted that, during the period of the persecution of the «Muslim Brotherhood» in Cairo, namely Mawdudi in his works was developing the theories and the concepts that allowed Islamist ideology to adapt to the new political conditions. The author dwells on the purposes of jihad, according to Mawdudi, which consist in the establishment of a united and undivided power of God on the earth by overthrowing the corrupt governments, as well as the destruction of «false religion» and replacing it with the religion of truth - that is Islam. Under the pen of Mawdudi religion has become an ideology of political struggle, for doing that in 1941 he organized the «Jamaat-e-Islami». The contribution of Mawdudi in the development of modern Islamism consisted, according to author, is that he justified the delimitation between the Muslim nationalists as well as the world of the «ulama», and that is his party continued to exist while Islamists were disorganized by repression.
