Abstract
On the basis of analyzing the system of the characters of the poem written by Mir Ali Fanai in Urdu in the first half of the XIX century, the author of the paper has come to the conclusion that the narration of the martyrdom of Muzaffar-khan Saddozai, the last muslim ruler of Multan (1818), was told according to the model of describing the martyrdom of Prophet’s grandson, Imam Hussain, which took place in Karbala in the year of. 680. Besides, the analysis of this poem has confirmed the fact that there are war ballads in Urdu literature, which were named jang-naamaa .
