Abstract

In the article the evolution of the categories of space and time is considered, from purely philosophical concepts to literary and linguistic phenomena. The idea of space and time as the categories of a literary text is described with the definition and characterization of their main functions: ontological, anthropocentric, pragmatic, aesthetic, story forming, symbolic, which are decomposition of chronotope’s key function, specifically, sense-making. The decomposition of chronotope’s sense-making function as described in the article requires the new approach to language representation of space-time category and linguistic means ranking.
