Founded in 2014.

On July 12, 2013, at RUDN University there was held a meeting of parent universities on the activities of the scientific and methodological association of universities “Russian Test Consortium”.

At the meeting, the creation of the journal “Russian Test: Theory and Practice” was approved as the journal of the Russian State Testing System (TORFL). The founder and publisher of the journal is RUDN University. The journal is published with the information support of the Russian Society of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (ROPRYAL).

The first issue was published in 2014. The journal published the results of the scientific and practical work in language assessment and tests development.

Starting from 2021, when the Russian Language Institute was founded at RUDN University, the thematic areas of the journal have been expanded. Currently, the journal not only discusses the issues related to language testing, but also highlights various aspects of the language education in Russia and around the world.
