Аннотация
В первые десятилетия XX в. у многих европейских интеллектуалов развивалась негативная реакция на современность. Герман Гессе знал о моральных и социальных трудностях, преследующих Европу, и затрагивал эти проблемы в своих произведениях. Книги немецкого писателя и сегодня широко читаемы, а духовные странствия его героев в поисках себя, привлекают к себе внимание молодых людей по всему миру. Цель исследования - выявить актуальность Гессе путем анализа историографии научных работ о нем и выявления значимости различных взглядов на него, представить перспективы для будущих изысканий в области гуманитарных наук и исследований природы памяти. Применялся системный анализ сотни исследований о Гессе из журналов, индексируемых в Web of Science. Установлено, что литературный мир Гессе, включающий романы, стихотворения и автобиографические размышления, глубже и обширнее того, что раскрыто к настоящему времени.
