Abstract

With independence, a new stage of development of the Republic of Kazakhstan begins. The West Kazakhstan region did not stay aloof from these ambiguous and complex processes. Socio-demographic processes in the region have undergone changes-the number of settlements has decreased, and the components of the natural movement of the population have changed. For the period from 1991 to 2016 indicators of natural growth of population in the region decreased from 13.7 ‰ to 11.7 ‰. This article examines the main trends in the reproduction of the population of the West Kazakhstan region over the past 20 years in terms of districts. Changes in fertility, mortality and natural growth of population in 12 districts and in Uralsk for 1991-2016 were analyzed.
