Call for papers: "The Middle East: Permanent Conflict in a Changing Geopolitical Reality" (No. 3 2027)

The Middle East remains a highly conflict-prone space where old traumas and new interests, local identities and global strategies intersect. The year 2027, which marks the anniversaries of several key events of the twentieth century, offers a particular opportunity to rethink the nature of conflict in the region in its historical continuity and contemporary manifestations. This thematic issue of the journal aims to bring together studies that identify the underlying causes of the constant reproduction of tensions and analyze their new forms of manifestation in the context of a changing geopolitical reality.

The editors invite authors to consider the adaptation of Middle Eastern conflicts to the post-bipolar context, the impact of the weakening of the traditional Western presence, and the rise of regional powers such as Türkiye, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. Of particular interest are studies that trace the interaction of historical structures—borders, identities, and traumas—with contemporary drivers of instability, including economic transformations, changes in the energy sector, technological confrontation, and information warfare. An important area of discussion will be rethinking the role of non-state actors, including religious movements, tribal networks, and transnational organizations, as well as the influence of the confessional dimension on political dynamics in the Middle East.

The editors place particular emphasis on comparative and interdisciplinary approaches that combine historical, political, sociological, and theoretical analysis. This issue opens the door to rethinking the phenomenon of “permanent conflict” not only as a state of perpetual instability, but also as a system of adaptation and survival in the face of multilayered geopolitical turbulence, in which the past does not disappear but constantly enters into dialogue with the present.
