Economic development of the Republic of Tajikistan and the role of free economic zones

Abstract

The article analyzes the current socio-economic situation of the Republic of Tajikistan. The author shows the unevenness of this development in the XXI century and the main problems – the low level of per capita income and skills, non-diversified economy, high dependence on the external factor and the need to protect national economic security in these conditions. However, high and steady GDP growth indicates the presence of serious potential and hidden opportunities for the development of the economy of Tajikistan in the future. Free economic zones of the Republic of Tajikistan make a significant contribution to this process. The analysis uses statistical data from UNCTAD, as well as data from the Ministry of economic development and trade of the Republic of Tajikistan.
