The year 2017 promises to be a landmark one in the Russian-Indian relations, it is the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. It is noteworthy that even before India became independent, an offi cial announcement was made on 13 April 1947 on the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and the Soviet Union. A Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of India and the Russian Federation was signed during the State Visit of President Putin to India during October 2000. This document laid down the broad contours of Indo-Russian relations in the 21st Century. This article is devoted the evolution of Russian-Indian relations from 2000 to 2016. The author focuses on the analysis of political cooperation between the two countries on key international and regional issues.
