Article analyses the causes of African Union difficulties for the peace process in the western region of Sudan, a special attention is given to the influence of external factors on the conflict settlement, namely the confrontation between the United States and China over access to natural resources, and different political crises between Sudan and Chad because of their supports to the rebel groups of Darfur and in the eastern region of Chad. Article analyses how these external factors influence on peace process in Darfur and can also be perceived as the difficulties of African Union in Darfur.В статье анализируется этнополитический конфликт в суданском Дарфуре, который вспыхнул в 2003 г. между центральным правительством, неформальными проправительственными арабскими вооруженными отрядами «Джанджавид» и повстанческими группировками местного негроидного населения «народная армия освобождения Судана» и «Движение за равноправие и справедливость». В статье раскрываются причины трудностей, с которыми сталкивается миссия Африканского Союза в процессе разрешения конфликта в западном регионе Судана - Дарфуре.
