The authors analyze the views of Rev. Cotton Mather (1663-1728) on religion and science. The Puritan clergyman was one of the first in colonial America to understand the importance of scientific discoveries and to show that the new science and philosophy were an incentive to religion.В статье исследуется период конца XVII - начала XVIII в. в истории Новой Англии, когда под влиянием новой науки и философии Просвещения в идейном и интеллектуальном климате происходили серьезные изменения. Авторы анализируют взгляды Коттона Мезера (1663-1728) на проблему взаимоотношений науки и религии.
