Today we face many risks and challenges that threaten education the most, which made the authoritative international organizations formulate and adopt the so-called “Sustainable Development Goals”. The article outlines the key role of higher education in the transfer of knowledge, skills and values to achieve and promote the Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Quality Education for Sustainable Development” (SDG 4). Since sustainable development aims at creating a society competent in the principles of sustainability, SDG 4 should be achieved at all levels and in all spheres of social life based on the recent trends in rethinking educational policy. Today this policy aims at increasing economic, environmental, political and social knowledge, which should ultimately help people solve the problems of the contemporary society. The article considers the implementation of the SDG 4 and the current state and trends in the educational policy in the global perspective.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p style="text-align: justify;">Образование - важный аспект реализации целей устойчивого развития, которое затрагивает все сферы человеческой жизни: экономическую, политическую, экологическую, социальную и т.д. Начиная с XIX века ученые не раз предупреждали человечество о разрушительных последствиях индустриализации и урбанизации, предпринимали попытки широкого просвещения в естественно-научной области. Сегодня мы все чаще сталкиваемся с разными рисками и вызовами, в результате в современном обществе именно образование оказывается под угрозой, что заставило авторитетные международные организации сформулировать и принять к исполнению так называемые «глобальные цели устойчивого развития». В статье обозначена ключевая роль высшего образования в процессе передачи знаний, навыков и ценностей для достижения и продвижения Цели устойчивого развития № 4 «Качественное образование для устойчивого развития» (далее - ЦУР № 4). Так как конечная цель устойчивого развития - создание общества, которое будет компетентно в принципах устойчивости, то ЦУР № 4 должна достигаться на всех уровнях и во всех сферах жизнедеятельности общества с учетом современных тенденций переосмысления образовательной политики. Данная политика сегодня направлена на преумножение экономических, экологических, политических и социальных знаний, которые должны в итоге помочь людям решить проблемы современного общества.
