The paper provides the linguocultural analysis of macrotoponyms of Chile, features of formation of macrotoponyms and their etymology. Moreover, a classification of geographical names is offered. This article also highlights the role of studying toponyms for linguistics, history and society as a whole. The linguocultural analysis showed the prevalence of Indian backgrounds in macrotoponyms. They can be divided into several groups: fitotoponyms, zootoponyms, toponyms related to environmental conditions, lifestyle, religion, geography and geology. Geographical names appeared after the discovery of America by Europeans are related to historical events, personalities and discoverers. The timeliness of the article refers to a keen interest in the interaction of language and culture.</abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru">Статья посвящена проблеме взаимодействия языка и культуры. Содержится лингвокультурологический анализ макротопонимов Чили, рассмотрены особенности их образования и этимологии. Предлагается классификация чилийских географических названий. В статье обосновывается роль изучения топонимов для лингвистики, истории и общества в целом. Лингвокультурологический анализ чилийских макротопонимов показал, что большинство из них имеют индейское происхождение. Их можно разделить на фитотопонимы, зоотопонимы, топонимы, связанные с природными условиями, образом жизни, религией, географией и геологией.
