The nature of the Soviet withdrawal from Iran after World War II posed a dilemma. The Tehran Agreement, signed in 1942, stipulated the withdrawal of foreign forces from Iran within a maximum of six months once World War II concluded. While the United States and Britain withdrew, the Soviet Union took a different stance. It refused to withdraw, sparking a crisis in Azerbaijan with the purpose of obtaining oil concessions in northern Iran. The results indicate that Soviet Union had expansionist ambitions in Iran that date back to prior to 1947 and were motivated by its strategic geographical location and diverse economic resources. Once World War II ended, Iran’s geopolitical importance increased with the emergence of large quantities of oil, making it a place of conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union, as oil became one of the world’s most sought-after commodities and a key element of the struggle.</p>
После окончания Второй мировой войны значение Ирана возросло с появлением крупных запасов нефти, что сделало его полем конфликта между Соединенными Штатами и Советским Союзом, поскольку нефть стала одним из самых востребованных мировых ресурсов и ключевым элементом соперничества.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>The Caspian region</kwd><kwd>the 1947 oil agreement</kwd><kwd>Iranian oil production</kwd><kwd>the Soviet presence in Iran</kwd><kwd>the entry of Soviet troops into Iran</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Каспийский регион</kwd><kwd>нефтяное соглашение 1947 года</kwd><kwd>иранская нефтедобыча</kwd><kwd>советское присутствие в Иране</kwd><kwd>ввод советских войск в Иран</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group/></article-meta><fn-group/></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Al-Aidrous, M.
