The study analyzes the religious life of the German diaspora in Turkestan. The research focuses on the German population during the existence of the Turkestan Governorate-General (Russian Turkestan) as an ethnic community representing the German diaspora. There are used previously unpublished materials found in the collections of the National Archive of Uzbekistan and the State Archives of the Khorezm Region. It is shown that the German population that settled in Russian Turkestan was not homogeneous. There were differences in their social status and religious views. In religious terms, among the representatives of the German diaspora there were widespread Lutheranism, Mennonitism, and Reformed Christianity, and over time, there appeared Adventists and Baptists, as well as a small number of Catholics and Orthodox Christians. The Lutherans and Mennonites were noted for their particular piety, in contrast to the Germans who integrated into society by adopting Orthodoxy. A strong commitment to religion had a significant impact on their cultural characteristics, shaping a unique lifestyle and interaction within the community. The author concludes that religion not only served as a source of spiritual support, but also played a key role in uniting people, helping them adapt to new living conditions and maintain their identity in conditions of cultural heterogeneity.
Объектом исследования является немецкое население в период существования Туркестанского генерал-губернаторства как этническая общность, представляющая собой немецкую диаспору. Использованы ранее не публиковавшиеся материалы, обнаруженные в фондах Национального архива Узбекистана и Государственного архива Хорезмской области. Показано, что немецкое население, поселившееся в Русском Туркестане, не было однородным. Существовали расхождения в общественном положении и религиозных взглядах. В религиозном плане среди представителей немецкой диаспоры были распространены лютеранство, меннонитство, реформатство, а со временем появились адвентисты и баптисты, с незначительным количеством католиков и православных. Отмечена особая набожность лютеран и меннонитов в отличие от немцев, интегрировавшихся в общество через принятие православия. Крепкая привязанность к религии оказывала заметное влияние на их культурные особенности, формируя уникальный стиль жизни и взаимодействия внутри общины. Автор приходит к выводу, что религия не только служила источником духовной поддержки, но и играла ключевую роль в объединении людей, помогая им адаптироваться к новым условиям жизни и сохранять свою идентичность в условиях культурной разнородности.
