The purpose of the study is to show the migration processes and economic practices of the border territories population during the period of transition, from a period of frequent contact to the erection of a barrier on the border. The research is based on the legal acts regulating the border regime and the departmental records of the OGPU on border protection issues. The author shows the nature of the border during this period, firstly, it existed as a line of state demarcation and a military-political boundary, and secondly, it existed as a border contact territory, with established economic and migration practices. The author comes to the conclusion that even in the context of tightening the border regime, the population of the border territories maintained economic interaction, resorting to illegal practices in order to survive and circumvent government restrictions.</p>
Авторы пришли к выводу, что даже в условиях ужесточения пограничного режима население приграничья сохранило экономическое взаимодействие, прибегая к нелегальным практикам с целью выживания и обхода государственных ограничений.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Soviet-Chinese borderlands</kwd><kwd>Kazakhstan</kwd><kwd>migration</kwd><kwd>smuggling</kwd><kwd>and banditry</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>советско-китайское трансграничье</kwd><kwd>Казахстан</kwd><kwd>миграция</kwd><kwd>контрабанда</kwd><kwd>бандитизм</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><award-group><funding-source><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="ru">Статья подготовлена в рамках реализации научного проекта AP23485356 по гранту Комитета науки Министерства образования и науки Республики Казахстан на тему: «Паспортизация в Казахстане 1932–1940 гг.»</institution></institution-wrap><institution-wrap><institution xml:lang="en">The article was prepared as part of the scientific project AP23485356 under a grant from the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic: “Passportization in Kazakhstan 1932–1940.”</institution></institution-wrap></funding-source></award-group></funding-group></article-meta><fn-group/></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Abdullaev, K.N.
