In this article, an attempt is made to study the development of their theoretical principles which have not been the subject of special research. Based on various definitions of the term “linguistic landscape” found in the works of different years the article shows the evolution of research principles from quantitative, based mainly on the statistical study of the representation of languages, to complex ones, which focus on the qualitative characteristics of languages functioning in public urban space.</p>
