The research serves as an introduction to Cassirer’s philosophy of symbolic forms from the perspective of the so-called “cultural turn” in the methodology of science. Although Cassirer viewed his system as “prolegomena” to a future philosophy of culture and can therefore be regarded as a harbinger of the processes that took place in the late twentieth-century sciences, his philosophy, due to historical circumstances, did not exert a significant influence on their development. However, it has become widely sought after precisely because of these very changes. The study discusses the factors that have accounted for the “renaissance” of Cassirer’s theory since the early 1990s. The author then points to problematic areas in the philosophical study of the system of symbolic forms. Three aspects are particularly highlighted: the extent to which Cassirer’s approach to understanding culture is “Kantian”; the methodological status of symbolic forms, in particular, what is meant by their a priori character; and whether Cassirer’s philosophy of culture is idealistic, or whether his constructivism can be viewed as a form of realism. These aspects already indicate that Cassirer's theory still holds considerable potential for reflection and possible further development. Some approaches to working with Cassirer’s theoretical legacy are presented in the research. Overall, this paper is introductory in nature and is intended as an opening to this issue, which is devoted to an analysis of the philosophy of one of the significant thinkers of the 20th century.
Исследование представляет собой введение в философию символических форм Кассирера из перспективы так называемого «поворота к культуре» (cultural turn) в методологии науки. Несмотря на то, что свою систему Кассирер рассматривал как «пролегомены» к будущей философии культуры и поэтому его можно рассматривать как предвестника процессов, произошедших в науке конца XX в., его философия в силу исторических условий не оказала значительного влияния на их развитие. Однако она оказалась широко востребованной именно в силу произошедших изменений. Обсуждаются факторы, обусловившие «ренессанс» теории Кассирера с начала 90-х гг. прошлого века. Указываются проблемные зоны в философском исследовании системы символических форм. Особо выделяются три аспекта: насколько «кантианским» является подход Кассирера к пониманию культуры; каков методологический статус символических форм, в частности, что означает их априорный характер; является ли философия культуры Кассирера идеалистической или его конструктивизм можно рассматривать как одну из форм реализма. Уже эти аспекты указывают на то, что теория Кассирера до сих пор обладает большим потенциалом для осмысления и возможного развития. Приводятся некоторые из подходов к работе с теоретическим наследием Кассирера. Исследование носит характер введения к данному выпуску, посвященному анализу философии одного из значительных мыслителей XX в.
