The paper examines the nature of the problems that arose in the course of comparing three articles on television discourse written in English and Russian by native and non-native speakers. It argues that the ways in which these linguistic units function in academic discourse of a particular culture can be determined only as a result of careful analysis of context and in view of a whole gamut of culturally specific means of realizing communicative meanings.
Их функции в формировании национального научного стиля могут быть выявлены лишь с использованием контекстуального анализа и учетом всей совокупности этноспецифичных средств реализации коммуникативных стратегий.</trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>communicative style across cultures</kwd><kwd>stylistic feature</kwd><kwd>academic discourse</kwd><kwd>communicative strategy</kwd><kwd>contextual analysis</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>национальный стиль коммуникации</kwd><kwd>стилевая черта</kwd><kwd>научный дискурс</kwd><kwd>коммуникативная стратегия</kwd><kwd>контекстуальный анализ</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Лапунова О.В.
