Abstract

This paper deals with difficulties that appear in the course of teaching Russian language in a multilingual environment at the University of Ghana, where English, being the official language of the country, functions as a medium of instruction. The research was based on examination questions used to test students and set in accordance with the foreign languages curriculum of the University. In the process of analysis, phonetic, grammatical and punctuation mistakes were identified. The authors concluded that mistakes made by students in oral speech and writing were influenced by both official and local languages.
