Ethnic Characteristics of Students’ Value Orientations

Abstract

The article is devoted to the ethnic features of value orientations in students from different parts of the world. It is shown that the lives of the students from Latin America and Central Asia are more holistic and meaningful than the lives of the students from China, the Middle East and Russia. Latin American students are more focused on individuality, self-regulation, and the Central Asian — on collectivism, the controllability of life events. The gender specifics of the value orientations of students are described. The connection between the students’ value orientations personality components such as a basic trust in the world, social and emotional intelligence, ethnic identity and tolerance towards the people of other ethnic groups, stress-coping strategies are analyzed.

The author closely describes the evolution of the terms “innovation” and “potential” in different fields of research. The relation between the innovation activity and the activity of a personality is also considered in the article. It further provides an analysis of the phenomenon of activity in differential psychology, on the basis of which an assumption is made that the innovative potential in a personality is determined by different types of activity.

Abstract

Hyperventilation (HV) and breath-holding (BH) are informative psychophysiological tests resulting in rapidly changing cerebral blood flow. The aim of our research was to determine differential EEG spectra of introverts/extroverts with induced HV and BH. Introverts revealed more intensive EEG reaction during HV, which was specifically shown by increased theta and gamma activity in all cortical areas.

Categorial Model of Lines, Angles and Cross-Shaped Images Recognition

Abstract

The geometrical model of recognizing stimuli represented by the images composed of lines has been considered in the article. We have constructed the three-dimensional space having made use of the multidimensional scaling technique for averaged superthreshold estimations of the subjective differences between lines, angles and cross-shaped images. By means of the terms of Sokolov and Izmailov’s theory this space was the recognition model of differentiating our selected stimuli. The main specific feature of the model was the differentiation of these images by use of visual categorization.
